An article accepted to the Journal of Physical Activity and Health (JPAH) on October 1, 2011, titled "Day Length and Weather Effects on Children’s Physical Activity and Participation in Play, Sports, and Active Travel," was recently publicized in several leading British media sources. The authors — Anna Goodman, James Paskins, and Roger Mackett — found that "longer afternoon/evening daylight may have a causal role in increasing child physical activity." The findings of this article are currently of particular relevance as the UK government is discussing moving clocks forward by an hour for a three-year trial period. The journal article’s findings were discussed in articles in the BBC News, The Guardian, and The Daily Mail.
For a limited time, journal readers may read the In Press article for free. It will be published in the journal in 2012.
This is the second time that a JPAH article was featured in major news publications this year. In March, a journal article that addressed dog-walking and its impact on health was featured in The New York Times.
