The International Journal of Athletic Therapy & Training (IJATT) is the professional journal for athletic trainers and athletic therapists. IJATT publishes peer-reviewed content focused on (a) clinical applications of research findings; (b) techniques and clinical insights for enhancing the recognition, management, and prevention of sport-related injuries and illnesses; and (c) professional practice issues relevant to athletic training and athletic therapy. Manuscript formats published in IJATT include critical appraisals of the best available research, Clinical Contributions to the Available Sources of Evidence (CASE) reports, and original research studies that have strong relevance to clinical practice.
The International Journal of Athletic Therapy & Training (IJATT) is a bimonthly (January, March, May, July, September, and November), anonymous peer-reviewed journal that publishes content related to clinical challenges facing athletic trainers and athletic therapists. The terms athletic training, athletic therapy, as well as athletic trainer and athletic therapist, are interchangeable throughout the journal, except when referring to particular individuals or issues specific to the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) or the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). IJATT reports address many topics relevant to sports medicine, including clinical research on the recognition, management, and prevention of sports injuries and illnesses; emerging trends in complementary and integrative health; and professional issues in athletic training education and practice. IJATT includes a continuing education assessment quiz that can be completed for 3.0 EBP BOC CEUs or 0.4 CEUs from the CATA.
Products advertised and programs described in IJATT should not be construed as having been endorsed by Human Kinetics, Inc.

Prior to submission, please carefully read and follow the submission guidelines detailed below. Authors must submit their manuscripts through the journal’s ScholarOne online submission system. To submit, click the button below:
The Journals Division at Human Kinetics adheres to the criteria for authorship as outlined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors*:
Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for the content. Authorship credit should be based only on substantial contributions to:
a. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
b. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
c. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
d. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Conditions a, b, c, and d must all be met. Individuals who do not meet the above criteria may be listed in the acknowledgments section of the manuscript. *http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html
Authors who use artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies (such as Large Language Models [LLMs], chatbots, or image creators) in their work must indicate how they were used in the cover letter and the work itself. These technologies cannot be listed as authors as they are unable to meet all the conditions above, particularly agreeing to be accountable for all aspects of the work.
Human Kinetics is pleased to allow our authors the option of having their articles published Free or Open Access. In order for an article to be published Free or Open Access, authors must complete and return the Request for Open Access form and provide payment for this option. To learn more and request Free and Open Access, please see our Open Access resource page.
All Human Kinetics journals require that authors follow our manuscript guidelines in regards to use of copyrighted material, human and animal rights, and conflicts of interest as specified on our author resource page.
IJATT features Research Reports, Critically Appraised Topics, Clinical Contribution to the Available Sources of Evidence (CASE) Reports, and Critically Appraised Papers (Diagnosis, Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses, Therapy). Each of these manuscript types has its own set of guidelines. To review the guidelines for a specific manuscript type, please select from the links below:
Manuscripts (main document file) must be double-spaced and in a single column with 12-point font, 1-inch margins, and numbered lines, and text should not exceed 7 pages (not including title page and references). Concise presentation of content (1,200–2,000 words; 4–7 pages) is required for publication. Author name(s) and/or affiliations should not appear within the manuscript file.
All materials must be uploaded to ScholarOne (see submission button at the top of this page). A single file containing the title page (without author identification), text, and reference list should be submitted. Please include the title as the first element of the anonymized manuscript, followed by the abstract (if it is a research report), and/or key points (which should be included with all manuscripts). Tables, graphs, photographs, and figures should be submitted in separate files. Author information should be submitted in a separate file.
An editor and at least one other reviewer will assess the content of each manuscript. A topic that requires more than 1,200–2,000 words might be approved for publication as a two-part report (which may be published together in the same issue or separately in two successive issues). A two-part report must be presented in two separate manuscripts (1,200–2,000 words each) that are submitted together. A manuscript submitted to IJATT must not be submitted to any other journal while under review. When a manuscript is accepted for publication, an associate editor will work with the author to improve the presentation of the work. IJATT editors reserve the right to edit all content to correct grammatical errors, to ensure accuracy of the information presented, and to fit space restrictions.
Copyright: Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to the publisher. A transfer of copyright form will be provided by Human Kinetics, which must be returned before publication.
Complimentary copies: Upon request, authors will be provided with a final copy of their article.

The peer review process is integral to scholarly research, ensuring that research submitted for publication undergoes scrutiny of experts in the field to determine the validity of the research, including its methods and findings. As such, acting as a peer reviewer provides a great service to the scholarly community.
Additionally, reviewers for IJATT have the added benefit of collecting CEUs for their service. Reviewers for IJATT can earn 5 CEUs per review (limit 10 CEUs per year) for the Board of Certification. The required documentation to obtain these CEUs is a letter of disposition. We are happy to provide these letters upon request. IJATT reviewers may contact Pat Fish (patf@hkusa.com) to provide this letter, which will be on HK/IJATT letterhead and contain verification of the review and review date for IJATT.
First, a potential reviewer must discern whether they are capable of completing the review before agreeing to do so. This involves examining your content area expertise, identifying any conflicts of interest, becoming familiar with manuscript guidelines, and evaluating your ability to commit to a timely review. Of course, after agreeing to review, there are several steps which will help the reviewer to complete a quality review, which will not only help the journal's editorial board assess the article's suitability for publication, but will help the author(s) improve their work. To learn more about these steps, we encourage reviewers and potential reviewers to read a short article by the IJATT Editors, Dr. Patrick O. McKeon and Dr. Jennifer M. Medina McKeon: "Peer Review: The Hallmark of External Evidence Integrity".
To become a reviewer for IJATT, you must first set up an account via IJATT's ScholarOne site (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/hk_ijatt). Click on "Create An Account" and work through the steps to set up your account, filling out all required fields. In addition to the required fields, it is important to add your specialty areas (areas of expertise that you are qualified to review), as well as unavailable dates, if any (this will ensure you are not invited to review during this time). Importantly, you may also upload your CV or other qualification documents. When you click "Finish" your account will be created, and you will have successfully entered yourself in the IJATT peer review system! If you are selected to review, you will be contacted via email.
Subscribers of IJATT have the opportunity to earn up to 18 continuing education units (CEUs) from the Board of Certification (BOC) or 2.4 CEUs from the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) each year!
Each issue of IJATT includes a CEU quiz based on the high-quality content featured in that issue. Upon successful completion of a single quiz, 3.0 CEUs from the BOC or 0.4 CEUs from the CATA are awarded. A new quiz becomes available when the newest IJATT issue is published online. IJATT is published in January, March, May, July, September, and November. Each quiz is available for completion for 12 months after it is posted to the IJATT quiz site.

Our legacy quiz website has served Human Kinetics and our subscribers well for several years, but it has become outdated and does not provide the modern functionality users expect. Our new quiz website provides users with better control of their content, and it better integrates with other Human Kinetics products. We are excited for this modernization of IJATT’s continuing education assessments.
We appreciate users’ patience as we continue the transition to our new quiz website in preparation for retiring our old quiz website. We strongly encourage learners to download their completion certificates from the legacy quiz website for their personal records.
Completion certificates for quizzes on the legacy quiz website were not carried over to the new quiz website. Certificates for quizzes completed on the legacy quiz website can be viewed on our legacy quiz website. (See “Where are my quiz certificates?” below.) We strongly encourage learners to download their completion certificates from the legacy quiz website for their personal records as Human Kinetics will be retiring the site in the future.

For example, the May 2021 issue’s quiz was posted on May 1, 2021 and was available until April 30, 2022. The May 2021 issue’s quiz expired when the May 2022 issue’s quiz became available on May 1, 2022.
